Diary of a Young Hawk

Junior is growing each day and his parents continue to bring food.
Now he is expected to take Mom's catch from her talons.

After his meal, he exercises his wings, getting ready for that big day.

He spends more time looking up,
looking at those high branches where he knows he belongs.

Now, all he can think about is getting up to those branches.
Mom brings a field mouse for breakfast, but Junior
isn't interested.

He flaps and jumps around the nest, wanting to get to a higher branch. Mom brings the mouse back, but Junior doesn't take it, so she leaves again.

Mom tries once more, to no avail. Junior knows
he was supposed to do something with that mouse,
so he pounces on a feather instead.
