I named this Barred Owl chick Snowflake because she (or he) had so many light-colored feathers.
Those feathers made her easier to spot in the dark canopy near sunset when they are most likely to
be seen. Barred Owl chicks leave their nest before they can fly. They use their beaks and talons
along with some wing flapping to climb back up to their nest. By the time this photograph was taken
Snowflake was able to fly very short distances.
