This is another view of the Big Bend of Texas, encompassing a larger area
than Santa Elena. This image follows the Rio
Grande river as it passes through Santa Elena Canyon, and then, after making
its big bend to the northeast, through Mariscal Canyon and on to Boquillas
Canyon. Included in the image are such landmarks as the Solitario, an
8 mile diameter volcanic dome, along with numerous mesas and buttes whose
erosion is visible by the colors immediately surrounding them.
The area covered by this image is approximately 84x99miles. A
full-resolution crop of the image file is available
here that shows the detail
present in the full image print. |
