The Turks and Caicos Islands lie 575 miles southeast of Miami. This
beautiful archipelago consists of eight major islands and numerous small
cays. All of these islands are captured in this image, from West Caicos
to Grand Turk and Salt Cay, including the Ambergris Cays. Prominent in this
image are the coral reefs for which this country is famous and which are the
third largest in the world. Of course, these islands also boast outstanding
white-sand beaches with crystal-clear water. During the winter months the
entire population of North Atlantic humpback whales pass by on their migration
route between the Caicos and Grand Turk, so these islands are a popular
whale-watching destination. Numerous salt ponds and marshes are host to a wide
variety of resident and migratory birds, including Great Blue Herons, Osprey,
Pelicans, Frigates and Boobies.
The area covered by this image is approximately 92x54 miles. A
