Image: Freedom

Eleuthera Island, Bahamas, is aptly named, since Eleuthera means Freedom in Greek. It was originally given that name by English settlers who came here around 300 years ago seeking religious freedom. Today it represents a lifestyle of calm and serenity inspired by its many beaches and quiet charm. What attracted me to these data sets are the intricate patterns of the sand bars that stretch west of the island and the natural framing provided by the island itself. These sand bars and the southern end of the island form the northern boundary of Exuma Sound, the location of the Spiral image.

The area covered by this image is approximately 40x51 miles. A full-resolution crop of the image file is available here that shows the detail present in the full image print.
